Obama Out! The President drops his Mic on final Correspondence Dinner
President Obama hosted his final White House correspondence dinner and brought down the curtain with a befitting performance. The president was on a thrill ride joking on a whole array of issues and people. From the Canadian prime minister to Prince George to Hilary Clinton, they were all fodder for his jokes.
The presidential race was a rich source of material for his jokes. Obama took a swipe at the three main contenders.
The 2016 presidential aspirant came in a suit and tie, keeping it simple and refusing the bow tie. Obama chided him saying,“Bernie you look like a million bucks, or to put in terms you’ll understand: 37,000 donations of $27 each”
The other Democratic Party presidential aspirant was not spared either. Highlighting the difficulty she might have crossing the generational gap, he joked, "Hillary trying to appeal to young voters is a little bit like your relative who just signed up for Facebook.’Dear America, did you get my poke? Is it appearing on your wall? I'm not sure I'm using this right. Love, Aunt Hillary.”
Trump’s reputation as a real estate mogul could not go past Obama without some fun. He referred the difficult subject of Guantanamo to Trump saying, “There is one area where Donald's experience could be invaluable and that's closing Guantanamo. Trump knows a thing or two about running waterfront properties into the ground.”
Canadian prime minister
The president was also quick to make jokes on some of his interactions with Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who he is known to be close to. Joking about the prime minister’s looks he went, “Somebody said to me recently: 'MrPresident, you are so yesterday. Justin Trudeau has completely replaced you. He's so handsome, he's so charming, and he’sthe future.' And I said: 'Justin, just give it a rest”
English Prince George
The president was on a tour to the UK recently where he was introduced to little Prince George. He joked of the two year old prince, “Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bathrobe. That was a slap in the face. A clear breach of protocol."
The press have been at the end of the president’s jokes during his eight year term. He poked fun at the media for Donald Trump’s popularity, “I think we can all agree that from the start he's gotten the appropriate amount of coverage befitting the seriousness of his candidacy. Ha. I hope you all are proud of yourselves.”
And with that the president thanked the media for its role. He ended with two words ‘’Obama Out!” and physically dropped the mic!
